On the morning of Wednesday, September 1st, a free photo exhibition commemorating 'MYPARKMOMENT' PHOTOSHOWINPRESIDIO, a partnership photoville for Presidio in collaboration with a New York-based non-profit organization, was held on Anza Street's main parade ground. It opened in the presence of mainstream and minority media outlets. An outdoor photo show featuring works by people of all backgrounds who love the park will be on display throughout the year as part of the new Presidio Tunnel Tops opening.

The 14-acre Presidio TunnelTops Park being built within Presidio National Park, featuring walking trails, a scenic driveway, picnic areas and interactive play areas for children, is scheduled for a historic opening in the spring of 2022. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Presidio Park is known as the most visited national park in the nation.

A total of 400 photos

Director Michael Borland (Chief Park Officer for the Presidio Trust) said, “A total of 7,000 photos were submitted before this photo shoot, and the final 400 photos were presented through a strict photo judging committee. This work not only vividly expresses the beauty of Mother Nature and the joy of that time through photography, but it is also a love story of people immersed in nature as a social and cultural link that can be brought from nature.”

“The photo show was built on an ongoing collaboration with the community, and Presidio TunnelTops will welcome and embrace everyone,” he said. Laura Roumanos, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Photoville, who hosted the exhibition, said, “Photography is a universal language that allows everyone to tell their own story, and the opportunity for these stories to be displayed publicly is invaluable.” "We believe this photo show sets the diversity of gender, class and race as one of the most beautiful national parks in America." Four selected entrants from two community snapshot categories will be awarded $2,500 each.

“Especially in the Youth Center section, there are images selected by eight young curators, who spent time exploring what public art curation meant in places like San Francisco,” said Mark Yanez, head of Education Program. said.

Jessica Lie (Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy), who played a creative role in leading the community youth curator, introduced herself several years ago as a native Korean teacher and worked as a teacher in Jochiwon, Korea for a year.

Currently, she is in charge of education in the park, and she welcomes inquiries and visits from Korean students and encourages them to use various programs such as Field Trip.

Presidio Tunneltops Park

Charles Strickfaden, Director of Public Relations at National Park Service Golden Gate Nation Recreation Area, said, “U.S. national parks absolutely welcome everyone, regardless of race or color, and work closely with the local community through a variety of programs. “I think the new park to be built in Presidio will be loved by the residents of San Francisco and nearby cities as one of the most beautiful parks.”

“We especially hope that multi-ethnic children and students will visit the national park to learn about the benefits of nature and participate in various programs that cherish and love nature together.” The exhibition will be on display at four locations in AnzaStreet, including the Main Parade Ground, Sports Basement (1180 Old Mason Street), and in front of Presidio YMCA, until the spring of 2022. In addition, the Virtual Exhibition can be viewed by visiting PresidioTunneltops.org. The protagonist, Marissa Leshnov, is an Oakland resident, a woman of color who promotes health, peace of mind and healing through yoga. In the Visual Story Awards category, participants submitted collections of 8 to 10 images, and prizes were awarded to the winners. The winners are from San Francisco Bay, the Bay Area and their stories portrayed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and political events.

In this photo exhibition, I was able to feel the will to love nature, parks, and humans in particular through photography.
